Hello Soccernista! I just wanted to give you a heads up on some news. Some mates of mine (who work in the cable industry) just let it slip that Comcast has done a deal with Setanta Sports – HOWEVER, Comcast won’t begin to show the channel until customers and fans call them and say they want to see the games! I’ve already called them myself (I’m a displaced Man U fan currently living in Oakland), but I figured there have got to be other footy fans who want to see games and would be willing to call. Let’s help each other out!

Prescient! Torres’s speed was the difference against Mertesacker and Metzelder. Ballack did play, though… well, sort of, his name was on the teamsheet anyway.. We expected him to pop up for the leveler on any given set piece, but it never materialized.

And I _did_ see the USL match and heard that comment. What can you say, announcers trying to create relevance by making an absurd comparison? Did the comment do more harm than good? eh.

My Portuguese fascination has always been with Deco, Ronnie Ron, and Figo (and Eusebio before that even – ok fine not really), but it’s amazing how conservative Portugal always end up being, given the flair of their individual players at the club level.

Can’t wait for the rest of the quarterfinal matches, especially tomorrow’s NED v. RUS. Possible we’ll see some counter-counter-attack goals?

Are we fully comprehending how slow the slow-mo replays have gotten? Some of these calls that end in controversy, viewed in real-time, are nothing more than “Ooooh, that one was close.” Would we even be talking about this if it weren’t for the truly fantastic level of broadcasting?
And if we can make goal-line technology, can we not make offside technology? A microchip in every sock?
