March 2 – 2007

This is a special post. I write to you from behind the cactus-curtain.

Earlier this afternoon I made the journey to Phoenix, AZ, in order to watch some hot, Prem action with Lukey the Czech. Lukey and I patroned a local watering hole and found the city of Phoenix to be a dying breed: “Sweet Home Alabama” still causes a measurable rush of the dancefloor…without irony. Go figure.

Lukey split last weekend’s matches and comes into this weekend with a bankroll of $132.21 (based on $5 and $10 mythical wagers). His picks are after the jump…

Lock of the Week:

It’s a very important weekend in the EPL and it’s been quite difficult deciding on my lock of the week. As you’ll notice, I’ve taken some upsets and I’m actually picking my beloved Gunners to lose their first match at the Emirates. Unfortunately, a plethora of injuries and suspensions, coupled with a Reading side playing great football, results in the their first loss at home. Chelsea will beat up on a struggling Pompey, while Watford beat Charlton to keeps their hopes alive just a bit longer…

The match of the week, and my lock of the week, takes place “where you’ll never walk alone.” Man United can smell the title like a Czech smelling the fresh aroma of a freshly opened Pilsner. They’ve been brilliant all year and I’d be happy to argue with anyone who says that Ronaldo hasn’t been the best player in the EPL…maybe in the world. The kid with the thickest neck who performs acts of magic that I’ve only seen on a video game screen has given new definition to trickery at warp speeds. And although they find themselves in a hostile envirnoment I just can’t see the back four of Liverpool being able to contain the constant bombardment of merciless attacking through the likes of Rooney, Giggs, Ronaldo, Saha, etc. I think that Man U. wrap it up this weekend…2-0 DEVILS.

Liverpool v Man Utd: 0-2
Arsenal v Reading: 1-2
Fulham v Aston Villa: 2-1
Man City v Wigan: 1-1
Newcastle v Middlesbrough: 3-1
Sheff Utd v Everton: 1-2
Watford v Charlton: 1-0
Portsmouth v Chelsea: 0-2

Bolton v Blackburn: 1-2
West Ham v Tottenham: 0-2igan: 3-0

  2. Wow…posted that a bit too soon. Great game though. Too bad the team have an MJ style gambling habit.

  3. Indeed…the Hammers can’t hold a lead, and this game is the perfect example of why they are going to be relegated.
