Blogroll Inductee: 101 Great Goals

With the Champions League resuming yesterday, this seems like a perfect opportunity to induct a new member of the blogroll hall of fame. 101 Great Goals not only takes its name from a copyrighted video series, but makes copyright violation its stock and trade. And who benefits? You and I, of course. Within hours of any important (and some unimportant) matches, 101 has posted delightfully short game summaries complete with clickable links to video highlights.

Case in point: today I awoke to much ado about Ryan Giggs “controversial” free-kick. Having not seen the game, I called on 101 for the following clip.

And now I see what the controversy is about: absolutely nothing. Unless you find the fact that Lille are a pack of douche-rocket whiners controversial.

  1. Was it poor sportsmanship? yes. Illegal? Nope. The ball is set the ref walks away, no different than any other quick restart

  2. Poor sportsmanship??? How do you figure?? How can you define taking a quick free kick as poor sportsmanship?? How about intelligent football, taking advantage of the other teams inability to think quickly enough to get a man right in front of the ball and MAKE United have to ask for 10 yards..

Using your mind is part of the game….I have NO idea how one can consider that poor sportsmanship!

  3. There is no way that is poor sportsmanship, just smart football, not to mention a perfectly placed shot.

A quick restart goal has happened to everyone…tough shit.

Nothing had to be said, you can see it in rooney and giggs’ eyes that they were going to do that. just two smart footballers taking advantage of a mistake, just like you take advantage of mistakes in open play, there is no difference.

  4. By the way, thanks for the website man, usually I have to sit through a painful hour of the fox soccer report to see highlights. Not anymore.
